Phases.

Phase 1: The Flow.

I absolutely love this part of the design process, my creative flow.  I do not judge nor rate whatever comes out of me, I just open my floodgates of ideas!!  I have never lost the sense of time more then when I am in this phase.  Hours go by when I think it has been minutes.  I get such a soulful pleasure to work with my hands again, almost as if I am back to my deep inner roots.  I love this phase of of my creative flow.  Bliss.

Je suis dans un des meilleurs moments de la créations, mon zen créatif où je suis ouverte à mes idées sans jamais critiquer ni judger moi-même.  Au contraire, pendant cette phase, je me laises aller, je suis ouvertes à les toutes idées.  Quel profond bonheur à nouveau de travailler avec mes mains sans compter les heures!!!  J'adore cette phase de mon courant créatif.  La joie.

Vinegar.

Surprisingly how I am becoming such a  DIY kind-of-gal which continue to amaze my good friends and family.   While living in France, I learned to make vinegar and I have been doing it ever since.  Just as with most things made from scratch, there is nothing tastier then home made vinegar.  It is incredibly easy to do as long as you have a healthy vinegar 'mother'.

Recently I bought a glass ice tea jug with a spigot to begin my vinegar making here in my hometown.  Everything was ready except for this transparent glass jug.

C'est fou comme je suis devenue artisanale avec ma mode de vie.   En France mes amies mon appris à faire du vinaigre et je le fait depuis.  Aujourd'hui, je suis prête à produire chez moi mon propre vinaigre.  

L'autre jour j'achete ce pot avec un couvercle et un robinet comme récipient pour mon vinaigre fait maison.  Tout aller bien sauf pour mon pot transparent.

You need an opaque container to produce a mother that then makes vinegar.  My jug needed to be painted which is no biggy with a glass etching product and a can of spray paint. 

La mère de vinaigre n'aime pas la lumière, elle lui faut l'obcsurité.  Il fallait juste bomber mon récipient er c'est super facile utilisant un produit pour gravé le verre et de la peinture à bombe.  

Just a quick FYI of painting glass...  Brush on a nice thick coat and I let it sit for 30 minutes.  Be sure to wear thick heavy rubber gloves because this is pretty nasty.

Rapidement, couvrez bien une couche du produit à verre gravé et laissez-le se reposer pendant un bon moment.  J'ai  attendue une demi-heure avant de commencer la prochaine étape.  Mettez-vous des gants en caouchout épasse pour vous protegez comme c'est un produit chimique.

Prime and spray paint.  I chose a high gloss white, giving it a simple and clean feel to it.

Bomber.  J'avais choisi une peinture brillante dans la couleur blanche pour donner un résultat simple et zen.

Add an unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with a bottle of apple juice or I use a sparkling apple cider.  Either one works.

Ajouter un bon cidre bio avec une bouteille de cidre.

And now I wait for about 3 weeks for my taste.   

Vous attendez à peu prés trois semaines avant d'avoir votre première récolte.

My father.

I am fortunate to have been raised in an artistic family, hence my profession as a designer.  I do not remember a time where someone in my family was not building, sewing, knitting, painting, writing, etc.  Creativity came from both sides of my parents and was often encouraged.  Doodling or working with my fingers in some art project was part of my life growing up.  Though I am the only one who chose to be in a creative field, there is no question in my mind that my family are all creative in their everyday life.

J'ai de la chance d'avoir été élevée dans une famille artistique/créatif ce qui explique ma carrière de créatrice de mode et éventuellement de maison.  Venant des deux côté de mes parents, j'ai des souvenirs de mon enfance où il avait toujours quelqu'un en train de créer, que ce soit du bricolage, du tricot, de la peinture, de l'écriture, de la broderie ou quelque discipline créative.  Encouragée trés jeune, je n'ai jamais cessé de créer. Aujourd'hui je suis la seule de ma famille qui a choisi une carrière créative mais ça ne veut rien dire car tout le monde dans ma famille est créatif dans leur propre manière.

As I am back in the South of France in my family home, I am struck by the dedication of my father, André Girod, to his art.  He religiously writes every morning either as a contributing writer on a blog or on one of his novels having just published his 16th titled,  Made in France, Mad in France.  In the afternoon with the sun beaming brightly in his studio, his works on another large scale mosaic depicting the history of The Provence for his future floor for one of our grottos.  Being an avid painter and sculptor, there no bare walls left in our home nor garden.  As with most artist, wherever there is a blank wall in our family home, it is a blank canvas for my father.

De retour dans la maison de famille, je suis captivée par la dédication de mon père pour son art.  Chaque matin mon père écrit religieusement soit dans un blog ou sur son prochain livre venant juste de publier son 16eme roman, » Quand le Made in France devient le Mad in France ».  Quand la lumière du soleil de l'aprés-midi tape dans son studio, il continue le travail de son énorme mosaïque destinée au sol d'une salle de notre grotte. Dans notre maison et jardin familial, il n’y a pas un mur sans une peinture ou une sculpture faite par lui-même, chaque mur représentant une toile vierge.   

I now cherish this aspect of my father and family because it made me who I am today: a very good designer.  True, I do not see myself as an artist like my father but I have always designed beginning very early with my sewing and knitting.  If my time permits, I continue to design and make my own wardrobe.  Today I am thrilled to be expanding a bit into home decor thanks to my lovely apartment.  In fact, upon my return I have quite a few curtains to design for my 13 windows, a beautiful shower curtain and bed linens and wall art.  Why?  Because I love doing it and I would have it no other way.   
Aujourd'hui je reconnais l'importance de cet aspect de ma famille car je suis devenue une créatrice.  Honnêtement, je ne suis pas artiste comme mon père mais plutôt dessinatrice en commençant avec la couture et le tricot.  Si mon temps me le permet, je continue de créer mes propres vêtements.  Grâce à des opportunités dernièrement, je me mets dans le décoration de maison.  Au retour dans mon petit chez moi, je vais me mettre à la couture pour mes rideaux (j'ai 13 fenêtres à faire!!), un rideau de douche, des draps et de l'art pour mes murs.  Pour quoi faire tout ça?  Parce que cela me plait et je n’'imagine pas autrement, tout simplement. 

Titled L'Amazone.  Made from a log of wood uncovered in our garden that dates from the Viking-Roman age.  This piece of wood is at least 1,600 years old!!

Roy Lichtenstein.

Sharp, clean and simple is how i see Roy Lichtenstein's art.  There is something about looking up close at his great work to realize what a stunning stylist he was in his graphic composition of his paintings and prints.  Being a BIG fan of pop-art, Lichtenstein is one of my top on my list along with  Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquait.  I was allowed to take images of almost all art work which were far too many so I chose my loves.  This exhibit continues to be at the Art Institute of Chicago until September 3rd so do hurry to see it!!

Au musée de l'art à Chicago, jusqu'à 3 septembre il y à une exposition d'un grand artiste, Roy Lichtenstein.  Étant une enorme fan du Pop-Art, la compositions de ses tableaux et ses imprimers mon montrer a quelle point il y était un graphiste incroyable.  Avec au quand doubt, je l'estime au même niveau d'importance pour cette époque que Andy Warhol et Jean-Michel Basquait.

Quelle chance de pouvoir librement prendre des photos.  Une première pour moi!!!  Il ne reste que quelque jours avant de femer les portes pour cette exposition et je vous conseil touts d'y aller si vous pouvais!!!

Organic.

I like Ruth Asawa. She is a graceful artist with her crotchet organic forms.  They remind me of sea creatures such as a jellyfish.  I wanted to share with you a few images of this timeless textile artist.

Une artiste que je trouve d'une grace organic s'appelle Ruth Asawa.  Ses sculptures aux crochets m'impressionent le plus car ils sont intemporelles, des formes preque océaniques.  Voici quelques images de cette sublime artiste.

 

Van Gogh - Gaughin

Speechless.  Awestruck. The words that best described my incaptivating visit at Les Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux de Provence.  This wonderful country out did Itself once again in the name of historical preservation and the arts with the ingenious idea of Jean Cocteau to use an abandoned rock quarry from Medivel times as a light museum.

I have seen many exhibits throughout my life and only a few handful stay inputed permanently in my brain.  The Van Gogh-Gaughin shall be one of them.  Stunned, I stayed for two entire shows, holding my breath by its magnitude and beauty.

Awkwardly, I fumbled with my camera, cursing myself for not knowing how to adjust the darn thing!!  Where were my photographer friends Ben and Mike when I needed them???  I warn in advance that my photos render no justice to what I saw.... Damn!!!

Try to imagine yourself in an amphitheater cave with 40 feet cielings, listening to lovely music while feasting your eyes on these following images..... Breathtaking!!

A Baux de Provence, France.  Ce merveilleux pays s'est surpassé au norm de la protection du patrimoine et des arts en utilisant, grace à Jean Cocteau, une carrière de pierres du Moyen Age pour un musèe de lumières.


J'ai vu de nombreuses expositions dans ma vie et seule une moitié me reste à l'esprit.  Celle de Van Gogh-Gaughin sera l'une d'elles.  Enchantée, j'ai revu le spectacle deux fois de suite, incapable de respirer par sa magnitude et beauté.


Mal a droite, j'ai pris des photos avec mon appareil, jurant quand je ne pouvais l'adjuster.  Où étaient mes amis photographes, Ben et Mike, quand j'en avais besoin car mes photos ne rendaient pas la beauté que je voyais!


Aurai imaginez-vous dans une grotte aux plafonds à 12 mètres, écoutant une musique divine pendant que vous dévorez des yeux les magnifiques images......  Spectaculaire!
